Methodist Habitat

Have you ever had a tough decision to make? Such as chocolate or vanilla…or even tougher, vacation or a mission trip. Well we have made your life a little bit easier. Now you can have the best of both worlds. Bahamas Methodist Habitat is a mission opportunity on the sunny island of Eleuthera. We specialize in Disaster Relief and aiding in Sustainable Communities but when it comes down to it, we are committed to connecting people with people. “Relationships with some construction on side”, is how we like to describe it. Bringing and receiving hope and love all while nailing shingles or 2x4’s, leading community activities, or setting up hydroponic gardens, etc. We are able to integrate whatever skills and talents you or your group have been blessed with to aid those in need. We realize that the construction we do on the islands may not last forever but the relationships that are made can.

The details…

Who can volunteer?
Anyone that wants to serve. We are open to youth that have finished their freshman year of high school through age…
Group size can range from 1-55 at Camp Symonette. We also host smaller groups on other islands.

How Much Does It Cost?
Bahamas Methodist Habitat costs $50 per person per day and a $110 per person for building materials. This will cover your living and service expenses.

Where Do Group’s Stay?
Groups will, in most instances, be staying at Camp Symonette in James Cistern, Eleuthera. This is our headquarters and can house up to 55 volunteers at once. We also have facilities throughout The Bahamas that are able to house volunteers. You will be sleeping on bunk beds with brand new mattresses. We have a full kitchen and restroom facilities with showers on site as well.

What Dates Can We Work?
Work commitments average around one week in length. However, we are open to longer or shorter stays and groups may arrive and depart any day of the week. We can host volunteers year round.

What Does BMH Provide?
-Lunch and Dinner (Groups bring their own breakfast foods).
-Lodging at Camp Symonette or local church on one of the Family Islands.
-Construction materials and tools for projects.
-Transportation once on the island.
-The opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life, including yours.
-Opportunity to see the beautiful sites of the island.
-A chance to be live in community and start or rekindle great relationships.
Who Supervises Participants?
Group Leaders are expected to provide supervision for their own youth. Each group participating with BMH is required to have at least one adult for every four youth. The BMH staff will step in if necessary but realizes that you know the workings of your group better than we do.

What To Expect…
Expect the unexpected in your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Flexibility and a positive attitude are the best way to go into any new situation. Things run a little different in the Bahamas than they do in the States so start preparing for that now. However, know that you will leave this place a different person. You many not realize it as you are getting on the plane to leave but one day you will look back and know that your time in the Bahamas has affected the way you look at life and the way you love others unconditionally.

A “Typical” Day at BMH:
7:00am Wake Up
7:30am Morning Devotional
7:45am Breakfast
8:30am Leave for Work Site
4:00pm Leave Work Site for Beach
6:00pm Showers
6:30pm Dinner
7:30pm Evening Activity/Free Time
11:00pm Lights Out

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in The Bahamas.
